Abstract
This research is motivated by students' understanding of the material that is generally only obtained from textbooks and visual learning media in the classroom. Through experiential learning, museum visits are expected to increase students' interest, motivation, and a deeper understanding of past history, especially the Prehistoric period. This study aims to determine the effect of visiting the Sangiran Museum on the understanding of Indonesian history of the Prehistoric period in MAN 2 Ngawi students in 2024. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, data collection techniques are done through observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants in this study were grade X students of MAN 2 Ngawi, history teacher, principal. Data validity was tested using source triangulation technique. The results of the research using source triangulation show that the implementation of visits to the Sangiran Museum aims to increase students' understanding and interest in the material of the history of the Prehistoric period, before the visit students first receive learning through textbooks and videos. During the visit, students were given the task of making a mini vlog and a written report after the visit. The main challenge in the implementation of this visit was the concern of the school regarding the government's policy of prohibiting study tours, which could affect the sustainability of the program in the future. The understanding of the history of the Prehistoric period initially tends to be theoretical, after the implementation of the visit students experience changes in understanding the material, through direct experience students can see artifacts, fossils, and collections of relics of the Prehistoric period at the Sangiran Museum, students' understanding is more detailed and in-depth to the social life, culture, and technological development of ancient humans during that time. Assignment activities such as making mini vlogs and written reports make students think critically and creatively
