Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Six Sigma method in reducing product defects and improving production quality at the XYZ Sugar Factory. The main problem faced is the high number of defective products, which impacts production efficiency and customer satisfaction. This study employs the Six Sigma approach using the DMAIC method (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control), supplemented by Fishbone analysis and FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) to identify the root causes of defects and design improvement solutions. Based on data analysis during the October 2024 period, it was found that out of a total production of 15,445,900 tons, there were 518,050 tons of defective products, or 3.65%. The dominant defects were uneven sugar granules and uneven sugar color. P-Chart analysis indicated that the production process was not within statistical control limits. The average DPMO value was 61,602, and the sigma level was around 2.5, indicating that there are still many opportunities for improvement. With the implementation of recommendations such as strengthening process control, operator training, and developing SOPs, this study is expected to contribute to improving product quality and production process efficiency in the sugar processing industry.
