Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of career self-efficacy among Grade X Accounting students at SMK Negeri 2 Jiwan. The lack of confidence in their own abilities caused students to experience confusion in making career decisions and planning for the future. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services using the cognitive disputation technique in improving students’ career self-efficacy. This research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method, using a one-group pretest–posttest design. The research subjects consisted of 8 students selected based on low career self-efficacy pretest scores. The data collection instrument was a career self-efficacy scale questionnaire that had undergone validity and reliability testing. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test with the assistance of SPSS version 25. The results showed an increase in the average career self-efficacy score from 75 in the pretest to 92.13 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon test revealed a Z-value of -2.524 with a significance level of 0.012 (<0.05), indicating a significant effect after the intervention. These findings suggest that group counseling with the cognitive disputation technique is effective as an alternative strategy to enhance the career self-efficacy of vocational high school students.
