Abstract
Adolescents are individuals undergoing the process of development toward maturity. They are actively seeking their identity and beginning to take interest in a broader social world. Social media has become one of the main platforms for adolescents to interact and express themselves. However, high social media usage has led to the emergence of the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) phenomenon. FOMO is the feeling of anxiety about being left out of information or social moments. Self-esteem and social media usage intensity are factors that can influence FOMO behavior. In general, this research aims to determine the influence of self-esteem and social media usage intensity on FOMO behavior among Class XII TKR 5 students at SMK PGRI 2 Ponorogo. This study employed a quantitative approach with an ex-post facto method. The population consisted of 36 students, and the sample also included 36 students. The sampling technique used was total sampling. Data collection employed a Likert scale for three variables: self-esteem (measured using the self-esteem scale), social media usage intensity (measured using the social media usage intensity scale), and FOMO (measured using the FOMO scale). The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 26 with the product-moment correlation formula. Based on the analysis of the data, it can be concluded that the first hypothesis which states that there is an influence of self-esteem on FOMO behavior among Class XII TKR 5 students at SMK PGRI 2 Ponorogo is accepted. The second hypothesis which states that there is no influence of social media usage intensity on FOMO behavior is accepted. The third hypothesis which states that there is an influence of self-esteem and social media usage intensity on FOMO behavior is accepted. The results of this study highlight the important role of Guidance and Counseling services in helping students improve their self-esteem to reduce FOMO behavior. Although social media usage intensity does not have a significant influence on FOMO, digital literacy education is still necessary to encourage students to use social media wisely.
