Abstract
Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) are crucial thinking skills for students in the current era of globalization. However, students' ability to solve HOTS problems, especially in geometry, at SMPN 1 Madiun is still relatively low. This study aims to develop a geometry e-module based on ethnomathematics that is valid, practical, and effective to hone students' HOTS skills. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which includes Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The subjects in this study were 10 eighth-grade students of SMPN 1 Madiun for the limited trial and 32 for the field trial. The research instruments used included interview sheets, expert validation sheets, student response questionnaires, and pre-test and post-test questions. Data collection techniques used interviews, questionnaires, and tests. Data analysis techniques used validity tests, practicality tests, and effectiveness tests. The results of the study showed that the developed e-module had a validity level of 93.05% (very valid), a practicality level of 89.16% (very practical), and an effectiveness level of 0.71 (effective with a high category). The results of the increase in students' HOTS scores showed an increase in students' abilities in (1) analyzing, with an average pretest score of 3.79 increasing to 4.65 in the posttest; (2) evaluating, with an average pretest score of 2.5 increasing to 4.29 in the posttest; and (3) creating, with an average pretest score of 2.81 increasing to 4.32 in the posttest. The GeoGebra-assisted, ethnomathematics-based e-module on geometry material was declared suitable for use in mathematics learning and has the potential to hone students' HOTS.
