Abstract
Mining in Indonesia oftencauses significant environmental and social impacts. This study aims to describe the forms of environmental damage and social conflicts present in the novel Teruslah Bodoh Jangan Pintar by Tere Liye and relate them to literature education in high schools. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach using Greg Garrard's ecocriticism method, which encompasses six concepts: pollution, wilderness, disaster, habitat, animals, and earth. The analysis reveals that the novel highlights the exploitation of mines by PT Semesta Minerals & Mining, leading to environmental pollution, deforestation, ecological disasters, and the loss of living space for communities. The dominant data pertains to pollution and habitat. Additionally, social conflicts arise due to power imbalances between local communities and capital owners, exacerbated by state authorities suppressing residents. This novel not only conveys socio-ecological criticism but also has high potential as literary teaching material in high schools because it contains educational value, strengthens environmental awareness, and fosters social sensitivity among students. The findings of this study recommend the integration of ecological-themed literary works into Indonesian language education to cultivate students' critical thinking and concern for humanitarian and environmental issues.
