Abstract

This study investigated the effect of the Show and Tell technique on the speaking skills of eighth-grade students at SMPN 1 Mejayan. A pre-experimental design was employed, involving a single experimental group that received treatment without a control group. The research instruments included pre-test and post-test assessments focused on five aspects of speaking: pronunciation, grammar, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Data were analyzed using SPSS, with the results indicating a significant improvement in students’ speaking skills after the treatment. The average score increased from 53.83 in the pre-test to 78.33 in the post-test. The normality test showed that the data were normally distributed, and the hypothesis test using a paired sample t-test produced a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), leading to the rejection of the null (H₀) hypothesis. These findings demonstrated that the Show and Tell technique effectively enhanced students’ speaking skills and supported its implementation as an engaging method to foster communication skills in the classroom.
