Abstract
This study aims to analyze the psychological dynamics and decision-making processes of the main character in Damien Dematra's novel Tuhan Jangan Pisahkan Kami (God, Don't Separate Us) through Jacques Lacan's psychoanalytic approach, specifically in three main areas, namely The Real, The Imaginary, and The Symbolic. The main character is depicted as experiencing complex internal pressures, both from internal factors such as trauma and lupus, as well as external factors such as family relationships and social norms. The three Lacanian realms are analyzed to see how emotional experiences, identity formation, and social structures influence the psychological journey of the character. This study uses a qualitative method with content analysis techniques through the process of reading, noting, and classifying relevant quotations in the novel based on the characteristics of the three Lacanian realms. The results show that Prasasti faces unspoken trauma (the Real realm) in 32 instances, forms her identity through hope and personal relationships (the Imaginary realm) in 16 instances, and adapts to social structures such as family structure and social status (the Symbolic realm) in 13 instances. The interaction of these three domains creates an inner dynamic that influences the main character's decisions in choosing love, accepting life's realities, and fighting against pain. This novel presents a realistic character development process, from despair to acceptance of oneself and one's environment. Thus, this novel not only depicts physical and social conflicts, but also presents a deep psychological portrait of the struggle for human identity. This research is expected to enrich literary studies with a psychoanalytic approach and serve as a reference in understanding the psychological state of characters in literary works, particularly those that depict inner turmoil, loss, and the desire to become whole amidst the complex pressures of life.
