Abstract
This study analyzes the novel when Yanti moved to Yogya by Meilanie, which describes the emotional and social transformation of the main character, Yanti. The purpose of this study was to analyze changes in the character of Yanti from the perspective of psychology and sociology. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive approach to the study of literature and content analysis techniques on the text of the novel. The results of the study showed that psychologically, Yanti was initially dominated by id, experiencing anxiety, deep longing for her hometown, and rejection of new foods and languages in Yogya, as seen from homesickness and difficulty swallowing local food. Later, the role of the ego appears in social adaptation through prudence, self-adjustment, and the courage of expressing discomfort. At its peak, the super-ego develops, characterized by a sense of responsibility, courage to face fears and mature self-acceptance, even being able to find joy in new environments. From the sociological side, Yanti's transformation is strongly influenced by social interactions with supportive families, peers who initially mock but then show empathy and support, as well as teacher guidance, and cultural adaptation challenges such as language and food differences. Overall, the results show that the change in Yanti's character is the result of a complex interaction between internal psychological dynamics and external influences, forming her maturity and integration in a new environment. Keywords: Character Change, Literary Psychology, Literary Sociology, Cultural Adaptation, Yanti.
