Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of Discovery Learning combined with flashcard media to improve English speaking skills among seventh-grade students at SMPN 5 Madiun. Speaking is one of the essential language skills in EFL learning, yet students often struggle with confidence, pronunciation, vocabulary, and sentence structure. The qualitative research approach was employed, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection methods. The findings indicate that Discovery Learning engages students in active problem-solving, enhances critical thinking, and promotes independent learning. Flashcard media, as visual media, effectively aid vocabulary retention, pronunciation accuracy, and sentence construction, making the speaking process more engaging and less intimidating. Despite challenges such as limited fluency and fear of making mistakes, the application of structured learning stages and teacher guidance contributed positively to students' speaking performance. The study concludes that integrating Discovery Learning with flashcard media is an effective strategy to support EFL students in developing speaking skills and classroom engagement.
