Abstract

Language plays a crucial role in human communication and is acquired from an early age through interaction with the surrounding environment. Children acquire language naturally by imitating and listening to the speech of those around them. This study aims to describe the acquisition of the Indonesian language in a 4-year-old child and identify the factors influencing this acquisition. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through observation and note-taking techniques. The primary data source is the utterances of a 4-year-old girl named Naufalyn Alesha Ramadhani, supported by interviews with her parents. Data validity was ensured through methodological and theoretical triangulation. The results indicate that the subject has comprehensively acquired Indonesian language skills in four linguistic domains: phonological, morphological, syntactic, and lexical acquisition. In phonological acquisition, the subject was able to produce vowel phonemes /a/, /i/, /e/, /∂/, /o/, and /u/, nineteen consonant phonemes /b/, /p/, /t/, /d/, /c/, /j/, /k/, /l/, /m/, /n/, /r/, /s/, /f/, /v/, /h/, /g/, /ŋ/, /ñ/, and /ʃ/, as well as the semivowels /w/ and /y/, although some phoneme omissions, additions, and substitutions were still present. In morphological acquisition, the subject produced affixation, reduplication, and abbreviation processes. In syntactic acquisition, the subject demonstrated the ability to use various sentence patterns and types, including declarative, interrogative, and imperative sentences. In lexical acquisition, the subject had mastered seven word classes: nouns, adjectives, verbs, numerals, pronouns, particles, and adverbs. The factors influencing language acquisition include age, first language, environment, as well as biological and cognitive aspects. All data were collected over five months and analyzed descriptively based on each category of Indonesian language acquisition.
