Abstract

Speaking ability is a crucial aspect in mastering English, especially in the context of vocational education. This skill not only reflects mastery of grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation, but also becomes the main indicator of language fluency. This study aims to analyze the relationship between students' learning styles and English speaking skills in grade XI students of SMK Cendekia Madiun. This study analyzed the relationship between students' learning styles and English speaking proficiency using the VARK model and Brown's Speaking Rubric. Data were collected through questionnaires and speaking tests, then analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and Pearson Correlation. The research sample consisted of 24 grade XI students majoring in Multimedia who were selected using cluster random sampling techniques. The results showed that the kinesthetic learning style was the most dominant (50%), followed by auditory (20.83%) and multimodal (12.5%). Results revealed a significant negative correlation (r = -0.715; p = 0.000), indicating that students with dominant single learning styles performed better in speaking than those with multimodal styles. This indicates that a learning approach that is tailored to the dominant learning style can increase the effectiveness of speaking teaching. This study provides practical contributions for teachers in designing adaptive and responsive speaking learning strategies to students' learning preferences in vocational schools. The limitations of this study lie in the narrow scope of participants and do not cover other aspects of language skills such as reading and writing.
