Abstract

This study was motivated by the fact that fifth-grade students at SDN Purworejo had low reading comprehension skills in expository texts. Based on the pre-intervention results, most students were unable to draw implicit conclusions from the reading material, which had a negative impact on their learning outcomes. This study aims to improve students' reading comprehension skills through the application of the Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, Create (RADEC) learning model assisted by Flipping Pages Animation media. The study uses a qualitative approach with a classroom action research (CAR) model by Arikunto, which was carried out in two cycles. The research subjects were 13 fifth-grade students, consisting of 9 male students and 4 female students. Data collection techniques included observing learning activities, reading comprehension tests, and documentation. Research instruments included observation sheets, teaching module grids, and test questions. Data analysis techniques were conducted through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study showed an increase in students' reading comprehension skills after the implementation of the RADEC model assisted by animated media. The number of students in the low ability category decreased from 6 to 1 student, while the number of students in the high ability category increased from 2 to 8 students. The average student score increased from 73.9 in Cycle I to 88.3 in Cycle II. The percentage of learning achievement also saw a significant increase from 61.5% to 92.3%. These findings indicate that the RADEC model assisted by Flipping Pages Animation is effective in improving students' inferential reading comprehension skills
