Abstract
This study aims to identify the condition and needs of learning media in elementary schools, as well as to develop a prototype of digital comic media for folktale reading material in the fifth grade of elementary school. This research is a development study using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The analysis stage was conducted to identify the condition and needs of media in elementary schools. The design stage included planning the content, storyline, and visuals. The development stage involved creating a digital comic media product containing three selected folktales adapted to the characteristics of elementary school students. The developed product consists of three folktales: The Origin of Lake Toba, Timun Mas, and The Crying Stone. Validation was carried out by material and media experts, and involved teachers and students as users. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed quantitatively. The validation results showed a very high level of feasibility, with scores of 86.25% from the material expert and 92.5% from the media expert. Responses from teachers and students were also highly positive, with scores exceeding 90%. These results indicate that the digital comic media based on the Self Directed Learning model is highly feasible for use in teaching folktale reading in elementary schools.
