Abstract
This study aims to improve students' conceptual understanding by applying the Contextual Teaching and Learning model assisted by word cards. This research method uses qualitative and quantitative approaches. This type of research uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) implemented in four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. It was implemented in two cycles. The research subjects were 8 third-grade students of SD Negeri 2 Serangan. The instruments used were tests, observation sheets, and documentation. The results showed an increase in students' conceptual understanding. This can be seen in the test scores of cycle I and cycle II, which have a percentage of values, namely in cycle I 62.5% with an average score of 70.1, and cycle II as much as 87.5% with an average score of 84.75. So it can be said that the learning has been going well. The results of the student observation sheet in cycle I have a percentage of student activity of 60% in the fairly active category, and in cycle II the percentage of student activity is 81.75% in the active category. The results of the teacher observation sheet in cycle I have a percentage of teacher activity of 73.75% in the active category, then in cycle II the percentage of teacher activity is 90% in the very active category. The advantage of implementing the Contextual Teaching and Learning learning model is that students are easier to understand the learning. The disadvantage is that if the teacher cannot control the class, the classroom atmosphere will be less conducive. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning model assisted by word cards media can improve student conceptual understanding and create a more active, enjoyable, and meaningful learning atmosphere.
