Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools requires an innovative approach to improve understanding of abstract concepts, one of which is through the use of interactive technology such as PhET Interactive Simulation which is designed to support visual and exploratory learning processes. This study aims to determine how the use of technology-based learning models through the PhET Interactive Simulation website in Mathematics subjects for grade IV at SDN Ngrayudan 1. The background of this study is based on learning conditions that are still conventional and lack media innovation, which has an impact on low active participation and student understanding. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with data collection methods through observation, interviews, and documentation. PhET Interactive Simulation media is used as a visual aid in delivering material, especially on the topic of fractions, which requires conceptual understanding and concrete visualization. The results of the study showed an increase in student motivation and involvement in the learning process, as well as positive changes in student understanding as seen from the comparison of learning outcomes before and after using the media. In addition, teachers also integrated this media into the project-based learning method by showing videos and directing students to explore through simulations. However, in its implementation, several obstacles were found such as limited devices, technical obstacles such as internet networks, and the readiness of teachers and students in using technology. These obstacles were overcome by dividing groups, using devices in turns, and more intensive direction from the teacher. The use of this media not only helps visualize difficult concepts, but also encourages students to be more active and independent in learning.
