Abstract
This study aims to (1) develop a contextual problem based learning (PBL) e-module on the topic of temperature and heat for 11-grade high school students, (2) determine student responses to the developed e-module, and (3) analyze the e-module’s effectiveness in enhancing students’ critical thinking skills. This is a Research and Delevopment (R&D) study employing the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects were 36 students from class XI-F at SMAN 1 Nglames, selected via purposive sampling, using a one-group pretest-posttest trial design. Feasibility data were obtained from validation sheets completed by subject matter and media experts analyzed using the Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Content Validity Index (CVI) and from student response questionnaires effectiveness data were obtained from critical thinking tests based on Ennnis’s indicators, analyzed using N-Gain and paired t-test. The results indicate that the developed e-module was deemed valid based on assessments by subject matter experts (average 85.47%, “Highly Feasible” category; S-CVI/Ave = 1.00) and media experts (average 81.74%, “Feasible” category; S-CVI/Ave = 0.925). The e-module was also deemed feasible based on student responses, with an average score of 85.03% (“Highly Positive” category). Regarding effectiveness, paired t-test results showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (t = -62.381; df = 35; Sig. = 0.000 < 0.05), with an average N-Gain of 0.849, placing all 36 students (100%) in the "High" category. Thus, the Contextual Problem-Based Learning AI e-module is proven valid and effective for enhancing students' critical thinking skills regarding the topic of temperature and heat—specifically concerning the inference indicator, which had previously been a major area of weakness.
