Abstract

The research analyzes the conversational implicatures on podcast shows on Denny Sumargo's YouTube channel. This research aims to (1) describe the types of conversational implicatures used in podcast shows on Denny Sumargo's YouTube channel, (2) describe the function of conversational implicatures in podcast shows on Denny Sumargo's YouTube channel. This type of research uses descriptive qualitative methods. The data source used is Denny Sumargo's video podcast in the form of speech or utterances which contain conversational implicatures. Data collection techniques in this research used observation, listening and note-taking techniques. The validity of the data used is theoretical triangulation. The method used in data analysis is an interactive method. The research results show (1) there are three types of conversational implicatures, namely general conversational implicatures, specific conversational implicatures, and scaled conversational implicatures. There are 21 types of conversational implicatures contained in Denny Sumargo's video podcast, namely 6 general conversational implicatures, 6 specific conversational implicatures, and 9 scaled conversational implicatures. (2) there are five functions of conversational implicature, namely assertive function, declarative function, expressive function, directive function and commissive function. There are 24 data findings in the conversational implicature function contained in Denny Sumargo's video podcast, as follows: the assertive function contains 5 data which are divided into 3 assertive functions stating and 2 assertive functions concluding. The declarative function contains 4 data which is divided into 3 declarative functions to exclude and 1 declarative function to indicate. There are 10 data expressive functions which are divided into 8 expressive functions to apologize, 1 expressive function to praise, and 1 expressive function to thank. The directive function contains 3 data which is divided into 1 request directive function, 1 suggest directive function, and 1 order directive function. There are 2 commissive functions which are divided into 1 commissive function of offering something and 1 commissive function of swearing.
