Abstract
Social media cannot be separated from written language, one of the social media that uses written language to be used is Twitter. When using social media, the language used does not have to be standard language, but must be in accordance with linguistic rules. The @schfess account contains students' writings, where many of their writings still use language that does not comply with linguistic rules. This can also influence students' writing in the lessons they follow, for example in writing various texts in Indonesian language subjects. This research aims to determine the form of language use on the Twitter account @schfess, especially at the morphological level, namely the use of affixation and abbreviation. This research also aims to determine the relevance of the use of affixation and abbreviation to Indonesian language learning at SMPN 1 Jiwan. This research was conducted on Twitter social media account@schfess as a research sample. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques of observation, documentation and interview field notes. This research took 30 samples of @schfess tweet data which fell into the affixation and abbreviation categories with 37 uses of affixation consisting of 9 data prefixes, 4 data infixes, 3 data suffixes and 20 data confixes. The abbreviations found from the 30 samples taken amounted to 70 data, including 26 data abbreviations, 6 data fragments, 2 data acronyms and 2 data contractions. The use of affixations and abbreviations is relevant to Indonesian language learning at SMPN 1 Jiwan. Affixation and abbreviation material is not specifically studied in the subject, however affixation and abbreviation are present in every Indonesian language subject matter. Affixation and abbreviation can be studied from class VII to class IX, especially in written discourse skills. The results of this research show that the use of affixation and abbreviation often results in errors in writing. Usually due to inappropriate use of affixes and omission of one of the consonants and letters. Social media users should be wise in conveying information in written language so that it does not have ambiguous meaning and students are more concerned with using Indonesian well and correctly.
