Abstract

This study aims to describe and explain the form of compliance and violation of the principle of language politeness found in the comment column of the 2024 presidential candidate debate event on youtube kompastv. This research uses descriptive qualitative research method. The data in this study were obtained from the comments of netizens taken randomly at the first and fifth debates of the 2024 presidential candidates on youtube kompastv. This research instrument uses working tools in the form of data cards and indicators of language politeness principles. The data collection techniques used are listening and recording techniques. The data analysis technique used Milles and Huberman's interactive analysis model (1984). The results of this study found 46 data of language politeness principles. The compliance of language politeness principles consists of 25 data, namely the maxim of wisdom totaling 9 data, the maxim of generosity totaling 4 data, the maxim of praise totaling 3 data, the maxim of humility totaling 3 data, the maxim of sympathy totaling 3 data, and the maxim of agreement totaling 3 data. Violation of the principle of language politeness consists of 21 data, namely the maxim of wisdom totaling 4 data, the maxim of generosity totaling 3 data, the maxim of praise totaling 5 data, the maxim of humility totaling 2 data, the maxim of sympathy totaling 2 data, and the maxim of agreement totaling 3 data.
