Abstract

Sunscreen products with ethanol extract from water guava leaves (Syzygium aqueum) have been studied to have antioxidant content well enough to be utilized as an antidote to free radicals and protectors from sun radiation. The purpose of this study was to determine the SPF value of lip balm preparations that have been made with 3 formulations. Each formulation has different levels of water guava leaf extract, namely 2.50%, 4.50%, and 6.50% to prove what level has the best and optimal SPF value. This study used a true experimental design with a posttest only control design model. The results obtained based on the evaluation of the physical quality of the optimal lip balm preparation were obtained in formula 2 with 4.50% extract content, while the SPF value in lip balm preparations F0, F1, F2, and F3 obtained an average SPF value of 3 which is the minimum protection category with the highest value of 3.9478062 because the extract content in the formula was still low.
