Abstract
Blacksmiths are people or groups of people who are skilled in making iron tools. Blacksmiths are an important component in people's lives, especially in agriculture. Agricultural tools produced by blacksmiths are used by farmers to cultivate the land. The purpose of this study is to describe the development and socio-economic life of blacksmith craftsmen in Gosong Hamlet, Durenan Village, Gemarang District, Madiun Regency in 2018-2024. The research method used is qualitative with a phenomenological approach. Data were obtained from observation, interviews, and documentation. Data validity was carried out through data triangulation. Data analysis was carried out during and after data collection. The results of the study showed that in the period 2018-2024, blacksmiths in Gosong hamlet, Durenan village did not experience development. This was due to the lack of capital to develop the business and the absence of the next generation to continue the business. In the period 2018-2024, blacksmith craftsmen experienced quite significant changes in their social and economic lives. In 2019-2021, the Covid-19 pandemic occurred which hampered community activities and interactions. This also had an impact on the economic life of craftsmen. The restrictions on social contact and interaction caused blacksmith craftsmen in the Durenan area to be unable to carry out their economic lives such as production and sales of goods.
